Successful First Food Delivery by Drone in Mongolia ~ Following blood and postal deliveries, a new use case is pioneered with a 33km round-trip test flight from central Ulaanbaatar to a suburban summer house ~

Aeronext Inc. (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Keisuke Toji, hereinafter “Aeronext”) and its Mongolia partner Newcom Group (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; CEO: B. Baatarmunkh), together with Mongolian Smart Drone Delivery LLC (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; CEO: M. Otgonpurev), a subsidiary of Newcom Group, and Tok Tok LLC (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; CEO: C. Dolgorsuren; hereinafter “TokTok”), Mongolia’s one of the largest food delivery operator, conducted the country’s first*-ever drone-based food delivery trial flight on July 25, 2025, successfully completing the mission. *(As of July 2025, based on our own research)
The test involved delivering freshly prepared dishes from central Ulaanbaatar, a parking lot of the Ulaanbaatar City Hall branch office in Ulaanbaatar City, to the “Summer House,” a training and recreational facility owned by Newcom Group in the suburbs, approximately 16.5 km away with a 200m altitude difference. The drone flew autonomously over third-party areas — equivalent to Japan’s “Level 4 flight” (beyond visual line of sight over populated areas without on-site assistants) — successfully completing the high-level mission.

Background and Significance
This flight marks the third major drone delivery use case in Ulaanbaatar, following regular operations for blood product deliveries and a successful postal delivery in June 2025.
In 2024, Aeronext and its partners completed over 50 blood and blood product deliveries to medical institutions across Mongolia. Regular operations began in May 2025, with a total of 170 flights conducted by the end of July.
Regarding the delivery of blood and blood products, more than 50 flights were conducted to medical institutions across Mongolia in 2024, and regular operations began in May 2025. By August 1, a total of 180 flights had been carried out, delivering blood and blood products to 245 patients. Of these, 168 cases where were emergency deliveries, and 4 patients were in critical condition requiring a rare blood type.

In this food delivery trial, the team tackled a challenging route with a 200m altitude difference between departure and arrival points. Leveraging the operational expertise of NEXT DELIVERY Inc., Aeronext’s strategic subsidiary, they plotted a flight path over a river to ensure safety. The trial demonstrated drones’ practicality in avoiding urban traffic congestion and reaching areas without developed road infrastructure.
TokTok has been a member of the “Mongolia New Smart Logistics Promotion Working Group” since its announcement at the “New Smart Logistics Symposium” in Ulaanbaatar on September 28, 2023, and this trial flight was realized after nearly two years of collaboration. The trial was conducted as part of a project adopted under Japan‘s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s FY 2023 Supplementary Global South Future-oriented Collaborative Creation Project Subsidy.
